Flow NMR has emerged as an important analytical technology for process monitoring over the last decade. Recent advancements in flow cell technologies have enabled access to commercially available, online monitoring setups that can be easily fitted to most commonly used high-field NMR instruments with a 5 mm probe (without the need for a specialized flow probe). This ease of access to a flow NMR setup, coupled with the benefits that NMR provides as an analytical tool (ease of quantitation, unparallel resolution, structural information, etc.) has provided compelling rationale for its use to address various analytical and process monitoring challenges. At Pfizer R&D, we use of online NMR routinely to bring solution to a variety of process investigations that are key to our portfolio projects. The presentation aims to showcase our current flow NMR setup, our workflow and highlight some case studies and unique challenges that were addressed by flow NMR.
