Matt Augustine is a Professor in the Chemistry Department at the University of California, Davis. His current interests include using portable nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy to study emerging problems at the point of care: in a hospital, at a factory, on top of a mountain, etc. This work requires the design, construction and deployment of durable, inexpensive few-task NMR instruments and success requires constant developments in hardware, software, pulse sequences, and theory using approaches entrenched in the rich history of liquids and solids NMR.
