A brief description will be given of the analytical testing requirements at different stages in the growing, harvesting, processing, certification, and sale of hemp and marijuana products. A 1H qNMR method for quantitation of cannabinoids, terpenes and residual solvents in flower, mixed biomass, distillate and products such as tinctures, vapes, creams and beverages will be presented. The advantages and disadvantages of NMR in the analysis of cannabinoid-containing materials will be discussed as well as the possibilities of utilizing benchtop NMR systems to perform meaningful analyses. Finally, the use of NMR in a more traditional role will be presented where liquid-state 1H and 13C NMR are utilized to verify molecular structure of modified cannabinoids produced synthetically and the issues that can present.
